An Abruzzian Village

This village in Abruzzo, Italy, was abandoned in the aftermath of the L’Aquila earthquake in 2009. The residents were housed in a tent village before bungalows were built for them on the valley floor at the foot of the village. Builders are now gradually earthquake-proofing the houses in the old village, and there is hope that the owners will be able to return to their homes in the foreseeable future (pictured in 2019).
